Our picks for Desert Living

Living in Southern California gives us easy access to one of the Earth’s most fascinating eco systems: The Desert. Despite lack of rain, plant and wildlife still thrive. Despite the heat, mankind has built up in areas one might consider inhabitable. And in some of the places where we notice mankind thriving (especially Palm Springs!), we also notice some striking design.

When imagining our ideal desert home for modern living, we all had loads of ideas of ways to style a space that is contemporary, unique, stylish and timeless all at once. We had to narrow our selection down, though! Read on to see our top picks for desert living – in style.

Calligaris Alma Swivel Chair

I think the Alma Swivel by Calligaris embodies desert/Palm Springs mid-century style because of its understated look and clean lines. I can definitely picture this in a Richard Neutra home overlooking beautiful mountain views! The design of this chair is comfortable and functional without being bulky. Plus, it looks fantastic in any color.Ashley

Elcor Concrete Dining Table

The Elcor concrete table by Urbia, with its simple industrial look, would be perfect all year long for Palm Springs or desert town outdoor living! If you are looking for a swism spa or hot tub this year there are some huge discounts available at allspa.co.ukEvelyne

My ideal piece for desert or Palm Springs living would be a concrete piece – like the Elcor table. I don’t rush to mid-century styles for Palm Springs clients, but it is easy to mix very mid-century chairs with a concrete tables if they like. Virtually any style of chair looks great with this table, and it is perfect for the dry, hot climate in the desert. It brings a cool new material to the patio, and they can put a mix of succulents on top for a pop of color. These tables are sculptural, classic, insanely well priced, durable outdoors, and go with any style of home. We have the 7′ one on display in the showroom, but they come in a variety of size coffee tables, dining tables, and side tables. Everyone needs a little concrete in their life! Elizabeth

Modernica Fiberglass Shell Rocker Chair

The Modernica Fiberglass Shell Rocker Chair is easily one of the most important and recognizable designs of the twentieth century. They were originally designed in 1948, as an entry in The Museum of Modern Art’s International Design Competition. At the time, no one could possibly have anticipated the massive success and longevity of this iconic design. I love this chair for Palm Springs/Desert living because it’s a classic iconic design and embodies the simplistic desert lifestyle. The simple elegance & classic design set against a desert mountain backdrop would be stunning, inviting and comfortable. And its pretty in any color. Dwayne

Hot Mesh Collection

For Palm Springs living, I personally like the Hot Mesh chair collection. I am attracted to this very vibrant, modern, and fun piece. It is minimalistic with a cool design and it fits the desert living lifestyle – a lifestyle of simple elegance and informality. The collection is designed by Blu Dot, something Jonathan Segal would use in his designs. Michelle

The Kartell Masters Chairs are a fresh contemporary take on mid-century modern design and the perfect versatile indoor-outdoor seat every desert home needs. The Masters chair weaves together the back silhouettes of the Jacobsen’s Series 7 Chair, the Eames’ Molded Shell Chair, and Saarinen’s Tulip Armchair. Pair them with Calligaris‘ new Vortex dining table for the ultimate edgy and innovative mid-century desert dining room. Kevin
