Earlier this month, the Montage International hotelier group revealed their newest project, the Pendry Hotel San Diego.

This $120 million project took over two years to complete, but the final result is well worth the wait. The hotel has a “low-key luxury” vibe and is designed to attract a similar – but perhaps more laid back – demographic than the ultra-luxe Montage resorts. As Montage executive Alan Fuerstman puts it, “This is a new interpretation of Montage. The new generation of luxury customer is not really age-specific. It’s a customer who’s matured in a way to appreciate art, architecture, design, bold experiences. The customer is well traveled, has stayed in luxury hotels and boutique lifestyle hotels and wants a little bit of both.”

The design of the hotel is modern but with a nod to the location’s history.  The hotel finds perfect balance between contemporary and traditional – pairing laid back SoCal ease with modern, luxurious details and amenities. Visitors and locals alike can escape from the everyday norm in a place that is elegant, but still has an air of comfort and a “home-y” feel.

We are especially drawn to the eclectic decor of the hotel – one of this year’s hottest design trends. They found a way to mix materials, textures, patterns and fixtures in a way that blends to create one cohesive, unique look.

With six options for food and drink on the property, they have their culinary bases covered. Fine coastal fare can be found at Lionfish, while a more laid back restaurant-marketplace hybrid, Provisional balances out the offerings. Also on-site are Fifth & Rose, the hotel bar; Oxford Social Club, the new spin on nightlife; Nason’s Beer Hall, an ode to the building’s history -Nason & Co. Farmer’s Market occupied this unique space in the early 1900s; and the rooftop Pool House which boasts incredible views of the Gaslamp Quarter and a wonderful roof done by Quality Built Exteriors !
