A new year brings new ideas, intentions and trends. We’ve been scouring our sources to find out what will be the “it” factors of 2017, and there are many things to be excited about. Here are our top 4 selects of the latest and greatest design trends to watch out for this year.
1. Color! Pantone named “Greenery” color of the year for 2017. Symbolizing new beginnings, the fresh vibrant color sparks energy when paired with more muted neutrals. We also see darker shades of greens making a scene, in hues like forest or hunter. It’s dark, but it looks current and feels fresh when mixed with grays, blacks and whites, creating a refined, stylish edge.
Teracotta is making a comeback in more ways than potted plants. Floor tiles, throw pillows and wall treatments in toasted shades like cinnamon, rust, ochre, pale pink, and burgundy bring warmth into a space.
2. Keep light fixtures minimal, but also as a focal point of your design. A simple, sculptural pendant light in your entryway is a great way to greet guests in a sophisticated light. Shiny metallics are making way for subtler matte and ceramic finishes.
3. A new year brings new life, goals and resolutions! Many of us want to find ways to be healthier, live a more active life, and disconnect from technology. One way this is translating into home decor is by mixing nature with design. This can be seen in the use of natural materials in the form of tree stumps, raw edge tables and brick. We’ve seen a lot of natural geodes used as both pieces of art or home accessories, like a paperweight or bookend. Fur has made its way into home design, in the form of fur throw blankets and pillows.
Another way to stay connected to nature is to select items that are sustainably made. One of our newest lines, Luonto, is manufactured in Finland using recycled materials. The company also recycles many of their production byproducts.
4. The modern (and more tasteful) version of a souvenir is a home accessory. A vase from a Parisian market or a blanket from a South American adventure make statements about the owner as well as the items origins. This leads us to our last top trend, Eclectic Style that mixes & matches eras, acquired pieces from travel, and vintage antiques with new, modern pieces.
