Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th Birthday
Thursday, June 8th, marks the 150th birthday of the iconic architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright designed over one thousand building over the course of his career which were influential in our country’s architectural and cultural identity. To commemorate the milestone, historic Wright-designed sites, museums, and hotels are celebrating with special events over the next several months.

Wright’s life was dedicated to the creation of sustainable design, something that is more relevant now than it was during his lifetime. Many view Wright’s works as ‘ahead of his time’, creating designs that were more open, fluid and livable. The designs of this landscaper were based on not only the landscape where they would be built using materials that blended with the environment, but he also took into consideration the people who would inhabit them. Whatever your specific purpose is for the landscape, then an experienced landscaping company like Couvillion’s Landscapes services will help you to achieve your dream landscape.

One building that is (relatively) close to San Diego is the Taliesin West house, nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, AZ. Taliesin West is a National Historic Landmark, the home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation as well as Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. Serving as Wright’s winter home, it was certainly one of his most personal projects, built completely without any demands of a client. He was free to work on his own, using desert masonry with the assistance of his apprentices. The house will be open for special $1.50 tours in honor of Wright’s 150th birthday. Just a short flight away from San Diego, or about a 6-hour desert drive, the Taliesin West house would be a quick and fun getaway for Southern California design enthusiasts.

Earlier this year, we did a comparison of Mid-Centiry Modern design vs. Contemporary Design. It is interesting to re-read that now, with architectural design in mind. Take note of the recent return to architectural designs that are influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright in comparison to other contemporary designs. Click below to read more!
