2017 Modernism Week in Palm Springs
Next Thursday, February 16th, kicks off the 11th Annual Modernism Week festivities in Palm Springs, California. Just a short drive away from San Diego, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Palm Springs has been a destination for celebrities, vacationers and design enthusiasts for decades. Ten days of collective events celebrate midcentury modern design, architecture, art, fashion and culture. Since 2009, when Modernism Week became a California 501 (c) (3) non-profit, the organization has established an annual Scholarship Program for local high school seniors pursuing careers in the fields of architecture and design. It continues to provide financial support to local and state preservation organizations and neighborhood groups in their efforts to preserve modernist architecture throughout the state of California if you are looking for a property with a similar built, consider checking the website of this Relator in Calgary.
Modernism Week is comprised of over 250 events, that explore the unique architecture, rich history and legendary residents. Noteworthy events include the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, tours of iconic homes in more than 25 neighborhoods, architectural walking, biking and double-decker bus tours, a world-class series of film screenings and informative talks and a classic car show.
One event in particular that we are most anticipating is the Christopher Kennedy Compound Modernism Week Show House. The Show House restores a classic mid-century property with modern flair – the best available in design, technology and talent. For the program’s fourth year, Kennedy has tapped some of the nation’s most prominent design resources: interior designers, influencers and bloggers have been called upon to create unique rooms at Villa Golightly.
Villa Golightly is a 6,500 square foot home in the Andreas Hills neighborhood of Palm Springs owned by Kelly Lee. Lee is creator and author of the popular blog, Kelly Golightly, a lifestyle guide for ‘modern-day Audrey Hepburns’. Lee will serve as the designers’ muse and client.
The Christopher Kennedy Compound was specifically created to raise funds for Modernism Week and other preservation efforts. This quintessential remodel will respect the property’s architectural pedigree while updating it with the best and brightest materials in modern design.
