Ah, city life. How we love it so. The amenities, the restaurants, public transit and Uber drivers at your beck and call. But sometimes it is nice to escape. To get away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday life.
While dreaming of one such getaway, we put together a round-up of some inspiring homes with very high-end design found in remote locations, far from any urban setting. These double brick home builders are a passionate group of professionals, dedicated to building luxury homes.
Homes found outside of normal urban areas and neighborhoods may not be thought of as “high design” structures. But just because these people have chosen to live on the outer limits of society, does not mean they are outside of design!

Plano, Illinois
Built in 1951, the Farnsworth House was designed by famous modernist architect Mies van der Rohe. It was commissioned by nephrologist Edith Farnsworth and the home as well as the two’s relationship is the subject of an upcoming film.

A drawbridge provides access to this angular house perched on a hillside in southern Poland, which architect Robert Konieczny designed to close up completely when not in use. See more on this house here.
Hudson Valley, NY
Studio MM Architects designed a modern holiday retreat in Kerhonkson, NY. About 100 miles north of Manhattan, the home is far enough away from the big city to get a breath of fresh air on the weekends, and close enough to head back in time for work on Monday.

Jackson, Wyoming
A secluded, single-family home was constructed on a hillside in Jackson, Wyoming by Dynia Architects. The home forms a central courtyard with all the rooms rotating around it so they all have easy access to the outdoors thanks to the secure doors added by a local contractors just like the Bifold Door Installers crew. With sweeping views of the 35-acre property, wood burning fireplaces, and cozy mid-century furnishings, we could linger here for days.
Italian Countryside
In northeastern Italy, close to the Austrian border, this simple cabin overlooks a stunning wine valley. Designed by Modostudio, the home features a wall made entirely of glass allowing endless, picturesque views. The home is outfitted with light wood on the floors, walls finished by a local residential plasterer, and ceilings giving it an airy feel.
