The Safe Trestles design competition, organized by Architecture for Humanity, is a global design contest to develop a safe and low-impact solution for people attempting to gain access to Trestles Beach, home to one of North America’s most prized wave and surf spots. Thousands of people each year follow informal foot trails from the road-side to the beach that are both hazardous to the people traversing them, as well as detrimental to the endangered species that inhabit the areas surrounding these trails. Out of 100 entries from twenty five countries, the field has been narrowed to 12 semi-finalists. Seen here is the Trestles Footbridge project proposed by the Dan Brill Architects group out of the UK.
