Metropol Parasol is the World’s Largest Wooden structure in Seville, Spain. Designed by Jurgen Mayer H. Architects, the parasol flows over sidewalks and walkways in waves of honeycomb patterns. The design is created from wood, steel and polyurethane bonding and stretches for more than 18,000 square feet.

Saltbox Drinking & Dining is officially open for business. The new gastro-lounge styled eatery is now the restaurant for the The Sé San Diego, which will soon be the Kimpton Hotel. The restaurant space offers a great rustic and comfortable feel with lots of warm light. As for the food, that has all been created by Executive Chef Simon Dolinky, formerly chef of BLVD 16 Restaurant at the Hotel Palomar Los Angeles and sous chef at JSix under Christian Graves.

London is making a lot of changes and “upgrades” to their modern architecture before the Olympic Games next summer. But one addition won’t be on land, it will be in the Thames. The Floating River Park is scheduled to being construction and to be completed in time for Games in 2012. The park will be half a mile long and nearly 40 feet wide at parts and will float from the Blackfriars Bridge down until the Tower of London. The design is by Gensler Architects want this space to contain everything and become a tourist destination in itself, as well as a pathway within the city of London.

We have seen repurposed tires turned into to tables, but this tire art keeps the rubber in its useful form, but makes them more beautiful. Sturgess Architecture has designed a breath-taking and death defying glass walkway to help visitors view even more of the Columbian Icefields in Jasper National Park. The Canadian firm won a competition to create this design in the National Park located in Alberta, Canada. The walkway called “Brewster’s Discovery Walkway” will have a glass floor and will also be attached to a 400 meter walkway on the mountain itself. If you aren’t too afraid of heights, the walkway will open sometime in 2012.

A Colorado sidewalk has been turned into a nature park. The Natural Systems Domination in Downtown Denver took old office furnishings and live plants and created a beautiful concept. Tres Birds designed the space and said that the goal of the area is to “[encourage] people out of their offices for daily fresh air breaks.” The contradiction of the office and the outdoors is extremely well done and offers a whimsical design to the sidewalk space.

Sometimes billboards say more than words. This Lead Pencil Studio sculpture is built near the U.S.- Canada border near Vancouver and it’s creative design offers big message. The idea behind the design is best described by Lead Pencil Studion “Borrowing the effectiveness of billboards to redirect attention away from the landscape… this permanently open aperture between nations works to frame nothing more than a clear view of the changing atmospheric conditions beyond.”
