Paper Vase by Pepe Heykoop

Paper-Vase-by-Pepe-Heykoop-2Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop has created a paper cover to turn any glass jar or bottle into a faceted vase, sold to help impoverished women in Mumbai make a living.

Each Paper Vase is handmade by the women of the Pardeshi community in Mumbai’s red light district. The workshop was founded by Pepe Heykoop and the Tiny Miracles Foundation, which was set up by his cousin. “The ultimate goal is to pull this 700-person community out of poverty by providing healthcare, education and jobs within eight years,” says Heykoop.

A Modern Thanksgiving

From all of us at Hold It Contemporary Home, we wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving! We are closed for the holiday, but we will re-open on Friday at 10am and hope to see you there!

For Thanksgiving inspiration, we liked event planner Colin Cowie’s approach to a modern Thanksgiving: white manzanita branches create a lush landscape, and miniature pumpkin votive holders continue the natural feel. The Thanksgiving look is luxurious, minimalist and elegant.

Flux Chair

Inspired by the works of paper artists like Richard Sweeney, two young Dutch designers came up with the concept of a “one piece foldable designer chair,” and Flux was born. Made out of weatherproof polypropylene, the award winning Flux chair starts out as a giant envelope, and turns into a designer chair.

Faucet Fold

The Faucet Fold by Ceramica Flaminia was inspired by bent chrome pipes, which are usually considered a flaw. This faucet design puts a new meaning on the look of bent metal; it actually becomes the characterizing component and is a highly unique visual effect. Perfect for contemporary bathroom spaces, the Faucet Fold is part of the Fold bathroom collection designed by Lorenzo Damiani.
