Urban Vertical Garden

vertical-1As part of an innovative partnership called Home Sweet Home (Lar Doce Lar) between multidisciplinary design firm Rosenbaum and TV producer Luciano Huck, the teams went through dozens of Brazilian homes doing dramatic makeovers of interior and exterior spaces. On their 48th home, Rosenbaum designed a pretty amazing vertical garden that was suspended in a narrow walkway just outside the house.

Gravity-Defying Sky Planter

The Boskke Sky Planter gives gravity a new place in design. Designed by Patrick Morris, the upside-down Sky Planter has two advantages that make it different from a regular planter.  One, you can conserve up to 80% water, and two, you only have to refill the self-watering planter once or twice a month.  This is a bonus for travelers or those with a not-so-green thumb.

There’s a small planter attached to the rack that uses the water that runs off your dishes as they dry, growing plants or herbs. The fluid base design directs the water runoff into the plant containers, which are with clay pellets and coconut fiber.

Patient Garden

It is time to plan a trip to this beautiful garden design in Milan, but you won’t be able to book your tickets for another 99 years or so. The Patient Garden, a design created by Visiondivision and students at Politecnico di Milano, is already starting to grow, but the trees will not reach their final beautiful form for 100 years. The garden is made of cherry trees that will be coaxed and bent and pruned to create this relaxing oasis in the busy city.

Green Office in Colorado

A Colorado sidewalk has been turned into a nature park. The Natural Systems Domination in Downtown Denver took old office furnishings and live plants and created a beautiful concept. Tres Birds designed the space and said that the goal of the area is to “[encourage]  people out of their offices for daily fresh air breaks.” The contradiction of the office and the outdoors is extremely well done and offers a whimsical design to the sidewalk space.

Living Wall

Our neighbors to the North, in Vancouver, Canada, have created the largest Living Wall in North America. The Semiahmoo Library Green Wall consists of more than 10,000 individual plants and covers  3,000 square feet of the library’s street-side wall. The huge, mini-ecosystem invites nature closer to industrial areas with visitors like butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. It also helps purify the airs in the area, according to Patrick Poiraud, of Green over Grey- Living Walls and Designs.
