Happy Holidays from Hold It Home!

Hold It Contemporary Home will be closed Christmas Day. We will re-open Wednesday, December 26th at 10am. From all of us here at Hold It, we wish a happy holiday to you and yours!

Our inspiration for a modern Christmas comes from Seattle-based designer Michele Weingeist. Weingeist’s recycled aluminum, sustainable Tannenboing tree is designed to appeal to your modern sensibility and your green lifestyle! We love this new twist on an old tradition!

Join the celebration as San Diego Zoo transforms into a wild, wintery wonderland as music, lights, treats, and animal encounters! During the three-week Jungle Bells celebration, the San Diego Zoo is transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Guests can enjoy a nightly tree-lighting ceremony, lighted animal displays throughout the park, live animal shows, storytelling, bell ringers and, of course, Santa Claus.

The Nutcracker by City Ballet

City Ballet of San Diego’s Nutcracker was voted “San Diego’s Best Nutcracker” by San Diego Dance Alliance Tommy Awards. This lavish production is fashioned after the choreogrpahy of the great Russian master Lev Ivanov who created the very first Nutcracker nore than 100 years ago. Virtuoso dancing is complimented by opulent sets, costumes and Peter Tchaikovsky’s brillant score performed live by The City Ballet Orchestra with John Nettles conducting. This beloved holiday family favorite follows the young Clara on an exciting journey through an enchanted dreamworld, where she encounters the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy. City Ballet offers 11 performances at the historic Spreckels Theatre located downtown San Diego.

The Poinsettia Bowl

San Diego County Credit Union’s 8th annual pre-Christmas holiday game, the Poinsettia Bowl, will be played December 20, 2012 at Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley between San Diego State University of the Mountain West Conference (MW) and Brigham Young University of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). This nationally recognized California event features all the pomp and circumstance of a major college post-season football game and will air nationally on ESPN.

Poinsettia Bowl Gaslamp March

Festivities for the 2012 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl kick off at 6:00pm in downtown San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter at the Five Star Tours Poinsettia Bowl Gaslamp March. Marching bands and spirit squads from the participating universities will parade from each end of 5th Avenue performing holiday classics, and meeting up at Market Street for a heart-pounding Battle of the Bands!  After the dust has settled at Market Street, bands will continue on with their parade of holiday favorites.  The event is free for spectators.

The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is a time-honored holiday tradition brought to San Diego by the boating community. This year’s event celebrates “The Sounds of Christmas” with boats of all kinds judged for creative lighting, decorations and crowd-engaging fun. More than 100 vessels will take to the water for the parade.

Balboa Park December Nights

Balboa Park December Nights, the nation’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 35th consecutive year on Friday, Dec. 7, 5-10pm, and Saturday, Dec. 8, noon-10pm. As always, the event brings families and friends together to spread holiday joy, learn more about the cultural value of Balboa Park and kick-off the “most wonderful time of the year.”

Participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5-9 pm both evenings and more than 300,000 visitors are expected to experience the joy of San Diego’s largest free community festival. Those who attend will participate in a truly multicultural experience, enjoying food, music and entertainment from around the world.
