Gaslamp Music and Art Festival

Gaslamp Music & Art Festival officially kicks off at 1 pm on Saturday May 26th


Meet up at Gaslamp’s newest location barleymash at 600 5th Ave at Market St to pick up your event program! This event will be held entirely within the fine venues of the Gaslamp on real stages. The bands will be performing live at varied times throughout the day. All 22 stages will offer Free Cover Charge* until at least 9pm.  Many Participating Locations will have additional performances throughout the night. See our Band Line-up. Annual Solar Eclipse This Weekend!

Watch the Annular Solar Eclipse with Eclipse Viewing Glasses from North Star Science Store! Sunday afternoon, May 20, the sun’s surface will be 77% covered as seen from San Diego in the first solar eclipse in 2012; visible from 5:27 – 7:43 pm, with maximum eclipse at 6:39 pm. This annular solar eclipse, where the Moon blocks most of the Sun, will be the first to be seen from the United States in 18 years and the first to be visible from Earth in more than 2 years. Eclipse viewers and glasses will be available at the Fleet’s North Star Science Store for $2 (incl. tax), along with safe viewing tips.

16th Annual North Park Festival of Arts

This Free festival held on May 20th from 10am-6pm, has grown into a local tradition embracing a diverse line-up of bands, dancers and artists into one marathon day of performances spread across six stages.

Being on forefront of the art scene, the North Park Festival of the Arts celebrates all types of art forms in its Juried Arts Area with over 40 artists showcasing everything from elaborate paintings to metal sculptures and the creativity and talent continues with an array of over 50 specialty and food booths featured along University Avenue. There will be something for everyone including the kids as the Hands-On Arts area returns offering children the chance to participate in free, interactive activities designed to stimulate and inspire their imaginations to create their own masterpieces. Festival goers come thirsty to the Craft Beer Block and experience ten 4 oz.

Samples from San Diego’s favorite breweries for $30 in advance or $35 the day of. Mark your calendars to come experience a day where music meets art at this year’s 16th Annual North Park Festival of Arts! All proceeds benefit the North Park Main Street.

28th Annual Mission Federal ArtWalk

San Diego’s original, Mission Federal ArtWalk is the largest art event in San Diego being held on April 28th and 29th. More than 400 visual artists from all over the world show and sell their art. Live music and dance stages, interactive art for children and the picturesque background of hip and historic Little Italy make this event a must-do every spring in San Diego. Check Out the Coronado Flower Show!

The Coronado Flower Show is held in Spreckels Park in the center of Coronado’s Village, along Orange Avenue, between 6th & 7th Streets. This is the largest flower show held under tents in the nation. Exhibits are placed inside tents surrounding a central gazebo, which becomes the stage for continuous entertainment, announcements and trophy presentations.

Hours: Saturday from 1-5pm and Sunday from 10-4pm

Admission: $5 for adults and children under 12 are free.

Sculpture in the Garden!

For the fourth consecutive year, San Diego Botanic Garden is proud to feature a unique exhibition of sculptural creations throughout the lush and natural 37-acre setting. Now through April 16, 26 artists will present their sculptures set against the beautiful backdrop of dragon trees, fruit gardens, bamboo groves, and many more unique garden areas in Sculpture in the Garden.

On Saturday, April 21st, participate in the “Lost Ladybug Project” sponsored by Cornell University, where guests will be searching the garden for ladybugs and reporting back to Cornell University. In addition, there will be lots of craft activities located in the Eucalyptus Grove by Seeds of Wonder and a release of ladybugs at noon to benefit the garden.
