Currently, Mission Valley is swarming with University of Texas Fans in town for the Holiday Bowl. They will take on University of California tonight, but we decided to feature some of our Texan visitors amazing architecture. This boathouse created Bercy Chen Studio sits on the edges of Lake Austin and transforms the landscape with its circular design. The copper coloring, sloping design and simplistic look offers a perfect place to escape the Southern heat or just take in the view of rolling hills.

Color blocking has been a huge trend in the fashion industry this year, but one cafe in India has taken the bold use of color into their interior design. The Mocha-Mojo has bright, blocked colors, and could even be described as having a LEGO like-look. Designed by Mancini Design, if the coffee and espresso don’t wake you up, the design surely will.

The iPhone4s hits Apple stores on Friday and with more than a million phones already sold, that means people will be needing cases. Most iPhone cases are nothing to blog about but we’ve found one that is a twist on the traditional and adds a little more fun to the process. Created by Case-Mate, these unique cases other a wide range of colors and designs and fit both the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4s (since they have the same body design). London is making a lot of changes and “upgrades” to their modern architecture before the Olympic Games next summer. But one addition won’t be on land, it will be in the Thames. The Floating River Park is scheduled to being construction and to be completed in time for Games in 2012. The park will be half a mile long and nearly 40 feet wide at parts and will float from the Blackfriars Bridge down until the Tower of London. The design is by Gensler Architects want this space to contain everything and become a tourist destination in itself, as well as a pathway within the city of London.

The San Diego Blackout is officially over. The power outage shut down our entire county (6 million people) and left everyone sitting in the dark. Hold It Contemporary Home did close early yesterday due to the lack of power, but now that the power has been restore, we are open for our normal hours today (Friday, September 9). But sitting in the pitch black got us thinking about the use of “blackouts” in modern design. So after some web browsing this morning, here are some great rooms that have blackout design. The 17th floor lobby of the Hilton Pattaya Hotel not only offers beautiful views to the sea from its floor to ceiling windows, but it also offers a whimsical feeling, as soon as you look up. The fabric sheets hanging from the ceiling offer a soft movement and flow in the room, that fits perfectly it the serene surroundings outdoors. Air conditioners also help actually move the fabric so the rippling flow of the ceiling can match that of the ocean below.
