Luonto was founded in 1964 in Western Finland by Pentti Viitala. The company grew and expanded over the years and it is still family-owned today. Each piece is not only designed in Finland by Luonto, but each piece is built one at a time by skilled Scandinavian craftsmen. With this hands-on approach to furniture manufacturing, the company has been able to stand by their commitment to environmental integrity. The word “luonto” in Finnish translates to “nature”, and they incorporate conservative methods throughout their business practices. Their manufacturing processes create a small amount of waste and emissions, while operating on minimal energy and water. Certain wastes are then funneled back into their local community to provide energy sources for heating.
