The San Diego Architecture Foundation held it’s annual Orchids & Onions event last night at Horton Plaza. Hold It Contemporary Home provided the lounge furniture for the VIP Lounge and got to enjoy an evening filled with a silent auction, food, drinks and great conversations with some of San Diego’s most notable designers and architects. The Patient Garden, a design created by Visiondivision and students at Politecnico di Milano, is already starting to grow, but the trees will not reach their final beautiful form for 100 years. The garden is made of cherry trees that will be coaxed and bent and pruned to create this relaxing oasis in the busy city.

Small apartments are not hard to find in Japan and historic buildings in New York City, but this building combines the two cultures. The “Flatiron Building” in Shiga, Japan is modeled after the building of the same name in NYC. Seven total units make up the four floors and although the outside of the building may look different in color, the design can now be found in two countries.
