Flowing Fabric Ceiling

The 17th floor lobby of the Hilton Pattaya Hotel not only offers beautiful views to the sea from its floor to ceiling windows, but it also offers a whimsical feeling, as soon as you look up. The fabric sheets hanging from the ceiling offer a soft movement and flow in the room, that fits perfectly it the serene surroundings outdoors. Air conditioners also help actually move the fabric so the rippling flow of the ceiling can match that of the ocean below.

The Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Music & Art Festival

In about two weeks, on September 10th, Ocean Beach pier will be full of music and art for the Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Music and Art Festival. The event features multiple jazz performers and local artists. Tickets to the event are $30 and that includes all of the performances and access to “Art Row” where you can purchase art from any of the Southern California artists and galleries. 8 stages will be in place for entertainment, which will last until around 8 in the evening.

The Roof Garden Apartment by Tonkin Liu was built atop an old brick warehouse in London. The two story family home offers beautiful views of the surrounding neighborhood, six bedrooms and a green roof. The beautiful green fragrant climbers wrap around the glass windows of the home to give the illusion of garden living in the middle of the big city.

Burlap

Brian Malarkey’s newest project, Burlap, is taking Del Mar by storm. Malarkey and his partner James Brennan have created a Asian Cowboy themed restaurant that not only featured the wild dining creations of Malarkey’s mind but also an eccentric interior design that mixes the Oriental influence and rustic design to match the restaurants theme. Thomas Shoos, who also worked with Brian on Searsuckers, tackled the challenge with reclaimed pieces, koi ponds and two separate bars. Thanks to Burlap’s stunning design, dining experience and delicious cuisine, it is well worth a trip to Del Mar.

Apple Campus

Apple has been all over the news this week with the announcment of Steve Jobs resignation. But what has the design community all in a fuss is the design of the new Apple Campus in Cupertino, California by Fosters + Partners. The building will hold more than 13,000 employees, as well as a fitness center, cafe and auditorium. The seamless design is perfect for the simplistic design of Apple products.

People Sculptures

Spanish artist Jaume Plensa has been installing his human figure sculptures across the globe, including in New York City. The huge works are typically in a head or human figure and are shaped out of letters and numbers. The huge pieces are not just beautiful works of art but also are a great combination of typography and sculpture.

Prospect House

While browsing through the Freshome.com blog, we found a beautiful residence right in our back yard. The more than 7,000 square home now stands where an empty lot lay vacant for nearly 20 years in La Jolla. The owner also uses the home for an architecture studio. The beautiful, contemporary space offers the perfect balance of work and play.

This year’s 17th Annual San Diego Festival of Beer will take over the streets at Columbia and B once more to bring you a fun-filled evening with over 6,000 beer lovers like yourself enjoying the sounds of live music while sampling from over seventy different breweries.

We are expanding the festival this year to provide more space, more variety, and even more donations for local area cancer-fighting causes.
